1.   Oxford Street was once a medium between the Newgate Prison and Tyburn hallows. Those who were condemned, were driven through the street and put to death by hanging from the Tyburn tree. You could see a small round stone, which denotes the actual location of the tree.

2.   The street was originally called as the Tyburn Road due to the Tyburn stream running alongside. However, now this stream flows only through underground conduits and you can see a part of it at the junction of Davies Street and Oxford Street.

3.   During the blitz of 1940, the street was hit several times by the bombers. Most of the oldest stores such as John Lewis and Hollingsworth were damaged badly in this.

4.   Only one of the pubs remains now on the street and it is the Grade II at 6, Oxford Street. The building took birth in the 19th Century and was once called ‘The Flying Horse’. Do not forget to see this when you stay in a hotel near Oxford Circus. 

5.   The Oxford Street is also associated with the first ever album of ‘The Beatles’- the heartthrob of people in sixties. 

6.   Did you know about the secret rooftop garden in the Oxford Street? Well, it is named as ‘Brown Hart Gardens’ and was opened in 1905. Though closed in 1980, it again opened for people in 2013.

7.   The people who worked on the street in the 80s claimed that there is a secret underground street below the Oxford Street. This secret street can be accessed with the help of basements and cellars of the modern shops.

8.   One of the best-known shopping centers at the street- Top shop was originally known as ‘Peter Robinson Top shop’. This was previously a chain of departmental stores with one of the branches at the Oxford Street.
